Trying to get organised, one step at a time.

The overwhelm has been getting too much for me recently so I’m tackling it one step at a time.

January is always my month for trying to get back on top of everything so I don’t teach in January.

I need the time to clear my mind, hear my own thoughts and put some order in place to be able to move forward. There’s so much I want to do & to be able to use my time constructively I need systems in place to make things run smoothly.

So here’s today’s small win. Maybe.

1. Batteries.

New & used.

New batteries, in the cardboard wrapper. Unless they’re not.

If a battery is loose, does that mean it’s been used? Or has it fallen out of the new batteries box?

Years ago I used to just chuck batteries in the bin without a thought. Ignorance was bliss. But since I know that this is not acceptable behaviour, I now store them, awaiting the battery recycling bin.

So that we have a ‘battery department’ in the house I store them on the same shelf but separate from the new batteries. The idea of them getting mixed up & confused made me really uncomfortable so, after some online searching, I ordered the exact right size of boxes to fit on the shelf next to each other but separated.

When the boxes arrived they were flat packed which made me exclaim, ‘What the fuck!!’ But I persevered and found the activity of building the boxes the most relaxing thing I’d done all day.

I now need to make ‘Used’ and ‘Batteries’ labels for the boxes. Otherwise I’m almost back to square one. ( Done ✔️ )

I also need to remember, not only my shopping bags whenever I go food shopping but also to take the used batteries as I think the supermarket has a used battery dumping box.

New job created.

Not sure if this is a win but for now it feels like it.

( I’m not even bothered about the other shelves, it was just a batteries thing!)
